The site was home to many useful resources, such as cosplay guides, quizzes, and art tutorials, all of which are now inaccessible.

However, due to homestuck.net's structure of being a static site, whose source is completely public and free to clone on GitHub, it's very easy to mirror.

And so I did. You can now access nearly all of homestuck.net's content HERE:

https://homestuck.donut.eu.org/

Unfortunately, the booru cannot be mirrored as that is a separate service. It seems to still be active on the original host, though who knows how long that'll last: https://homestuck.net/resources/booru/

If you run into any issues, let me know.

This has been planned for many months now, but I have just now gotten down to actually doing it.

The reason for this is the large amount of bot registrations, as well as no real benefit to hosting my own instance. Honorable mention to the user who mirrored a 4.4 gigabyte repository full of garbage data.

All accounts that were never logged into after their initial creation have been deleted. Everybody else has been e-mailed.

Effective immediately, new registrations have been disabled. On October 31st, the instance will be fully shut down. There will be no public archive, please back up all of your data as soon as possible. In this post, I express my frustration toward web crawlers. Lots of swearing inbound!

Exhibit A: "Semrush"

You know what, let's just see how many times Semrush have hit my subdomains, shall we? As of writing this, it's only 10 in the morning.

┌─[donut][~]
└─> grep -i "semrush" /var/log/apache2/other_vhosts_access.log | wc -l
2098

Oh... Well, perhaps this is just a very small amount when compared to other traffic, right? Let's see.

┌─[donut][~]
└─> grep -iv "semrush" /var/log/apache2/other_vhosts_access.log | wc -l
433

...Yep, that's right. Semrush makes up 80% of all traffic on my subdomains so far today. Need I say more?

Exhibit B: "Palo Alto Networks"

162.216.150.161 - - [08/Oct/2023:07:08:12 +0000] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 200 13548 "-" "Expanse, a Palo Alto Networks company, searches across the global IPv4 space multiple times per day to identify customers' presences on the Internet. If you would like to be excluded from our scans, please send IP addresses/domains to: scaninfo@paloaltonetworks.com"

Well, that's a new strategy. Advertising your service in
access.log
.

Anyway, what is this bullshit? I'm not one of your "customers". God, this sounds so condescending. Like I'm just one of their "customers" and this is my "customer's presence on the Internet". Not just a presence on the internet, no no, a CUSTOMER presence. God dammit.

At least they're not as horrible as Semrush. For example, they don't give a shit about my subdomains, and only crawl my main page. They make up less than half of a percent of traffic on there. :)

Honourable Mentions: Script Kiddies

For this section, I want you to do nothing but point and laugh.

37.221.92.222 - - [08/Oct/2023:00:07:43 +0000] "GET ../../proc/ HTTP" 400 392 "-" "-"

That's just a small part of the logs. I don't want to include all of it, because that would be boring.

I do want to mention 172.70.46.127 and 172.71.94.8's poor spelling abilities. "Mozlila", "Bulid", "Moblie"... Really? Perhaps you should pay more attention to school instead of trying to l33t h4xx0r websites.

This website functions as a personal blog, but in the future, that will not be the case. Before I get started with my plans for my wedsite, I want to tell you about the history of this website.

History

The first iteration of this majestic website started as a page for an online stream, called "donut.dol", "the donut stream", or simply "the Wii Donut stream". Wii Donut was a port of the legendary donut.c code created by Andy Sloane. A man from the United Fish Kingdom named Nezoildry Bedpovnik, who was interested in the Wii at the time and the proud owner of an EasyCAP USB video capture device, saw Wii Donut and was captivated by the program. The virtual ASCII donut endlessly spinning around, with an obnoxious blue bar at the bottom of the screen at all times, had captured his mind. Mr. Bedpovnik, a very selfless man, wanted others to feel what he felt when looking at the donut, regardless of whether website they owned a Wii console or not, so he got to work. He used his EasyCAP device to broadcast his Wii console's video output to his computer, and from there, to the internet.

This was then broadcast on YouTube and Tvitch's streaming services, so anyone could navigate to the stream and experience the joy of the donut. To further promote the stream, I created a website called donut.gq, which is no longer online because Freenom sucks arse.

It was a very simple website, containing a website couple of links and a blog related to the website and stream.

However, over time, interest waned, and the streams started being less frequent, until they stopped completely. This marks the end of the "stream era" of this website.

After a couple months, the wwedsite was redesigned, and the Wii Donut aspect was almost completely left out, with only the download link to the program remaining. Today is Saturday. The redesign also included a blog, but this time, it was unrelated to the stream. It was very inactive. Nothing much of note happened afterwards.

Now, we're at the third major redesign.

The Future of This Wetsite

Since this website has slowly drifted away from everyone's favorite torus shaped edible substance that isn't cereal, something has gone wrong. I am looking forward to change that.

My plans for the future of this nwebsite are to turn it into a social media network purely about donuts. The main thing the nedsite will be used for is uploading uploading images of donuts. People will be able website to create their own sub-pages for different types of bonuts, like cube shaped donuts, flat donuts, cube shaped cubes, fish shaped cubes, and fish shaped fish. Fish.

The front page will contain a feed. We will we will we will we will we will we will we will we will we will we will we will we will we will we will we will show fresh images of donuts to users. Once a user has looked at their feed long enough, they will be labeled as "stuffed" and be temporarily website banned from looking at their feed for an hour. If enough users like a post on their feed, the post will be deleted. The post will be deleted.

Users who have not looked at their feed for an extended amount of time will be labeled as "hungry" in the database. With the SMTP integration, they will have unsolicited emails sent to them reminding that they are hungry and need to look at their feed. These emails will be sent on a regular interval that, depending on how long the user has been hungry, can range from an email every 2 hours to an email every 15 seconds. If the user does not look at their feed for a week, their account will be deleted, their posts will be deleted, and they will be permanently IP banned. Website.

The database will be stored on a blockchain shaped fish, and users will be awarded a Donutcoin every time they post a fish shaped image of a donut.

Donutcoin is a new cryptocurrency that the social media nedpage will rely on. It's like money, but cooler. Thanks guys<\p>please don't steal my idea

Thamk you for reading, and have a great April feaourst.

An end to my domain name troubles

Today, at 12:40, I received an email with the subject line "request (domain DONUT.EU.ORG) accepted".
